Africa, is the world’s second largest and second most populous continent in the world bordered to the north by the Mediterranean Sea, to the northeast by the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, to southeast by the Indian Ocean and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. It is the only continent that sprawls across the northern and southern hemisphere over the equator resulting in varied climate areas. The climate ranges from tropical to sub-arctic. Half of the continent in the northern areas is primarily desert or arid while in the central and southern areas, savannas, plains and very dense jungle and rainforest covers the land, respectively. Africa boasts with a diversity of flora and fauna and wild animal population roams freely through the vast jungles and open terrains. A convergence of vegetation patterns such as sahel and steppe dominate the region in between the arid plains and the rainforest areas.

Africa is a magnificent continent that is home to some of the worlds most famous natural and man-made wonders. It has the most countries of any other continent and is home to the world’s largest desert, the Sahara. It is also home to the world’s longest river, the Nile River as well as the famous Pyramids of Egypt. There are thousands of animal species that can only be found in Africa and so do many different kinds of people who speak over one thousand languages, some of which have been spoken for hundreds of years. Some Africans speak the languages of their European conquerors. Africa is also home to some of the world’s tallest and shortest people.
