Meander down the Eastern Caribbean chain of islands to the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles. Between Martinique and St. Vincent lies the surprising and beautiful St. Lucia. A picturesque paradise just 27 miles long and 14 miles wide, this lush volcanic island reveals a rich heritage, a gracious people, and multihued villages along pictorial palm-treed bays. The island teems with tropical rainforests, waterfalls, and botanical gardens. Bright sandy beaches sparkle like an unspoiled dreamland, with the Atlantic off its eastern shore and the Caribbean off to the west.
The multicultural history of St. Lucia blends the peoples of the Carib Indians with Europeans of English and French descent. From 1814 until independence in 1979, the island flew the British Union Jack. Despite this English influence, the French legacy is still evident in the Creole French dialect spoken throughout the island.
Sailors, fishermen, and watersport aficionados alike enjoy the challenges of the sea at St. Lucia. Any form of sea-going vessel may be chartered from the island, home to several species of big game fish. The crystal blue waters, warmed by the Caribbean sun and tossed by steady trade winds, offer exceptional venues for the best in windsurfing, kitesurfing, waterskiing, sailing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
The astounding beauty, temperate climate, generous hospitality, and tantalizing Caribbean cuisine create a vacationer’s paradise in St. Lucia.
